The sailor thought that he had managed to become worthy but he was wrong. But what he did gained the trust of Bear.

So, I’ll continue the story from here. Yea, I didn’t put into much detail about the surroundings, feelings, and sound in the story since it was long. LOL~ OH YEAH!! They haven’t eaten!! LOL~ these things just pop up everywhere… anyway… it should be around noon time when they went back to the village. And what about the sailor? Does he have a name? HAHA… I should have introduced the sailor’s name in the beginning right? Oh well…
----------------------------------------------------------------
“What is your name, Whiteman?”
“My name is James Robinson.”
“The sun is high, you must be hungry James.”
Bear offered the sailor a bowl with his large reddish Native American hand. In it was a yellow mushy blob with something which looks like onions.
“It’s wild onions and eggs,” Bear explained.
Hungrily, James ate the meal. He was surprised at how delicious onions and eggs could be. Moreover, it was the fact that he had not eaten since he came to the village the night before. Smiling, Bear laughed and said, “I’ve never seen a Whiteman so eager to eat wild onions and eggs. Get use to it because this is what we normally eat.”
“Do you have more?” asked the sailor.
“No, this is enough for you. Come, I’ll teach you where you can find these onions and eggs.”
James was still hungry for more but first he must prove himself worthy. Bear called out for Raccoon to accompany them. When Raccoon came, he brought along with him his pet raccoon which rescued Badger and James.
“Will Badger be alright?”
“Don’t you worry Culaak, our medicine man is the best in the land. He’ll get Badger up and running in 2 days,” said Raccoon.
James was amazed when he heard Raccoon speak. He did not thought that the natives had very good command of English, but when he remembered the chief spoke English, it must have been quite well known.
“Your people speak very good English. Have you met people from the colonies?”
“Not all of us speak well. Chief Eagle, Badger, Raccoon and I, are among those who do. We trade with them sometimes, for tobacco and other necessities,” Bear explained.
“Come, we must be quick, before night comes.”
Raccoon led the way with his pet raccoon sniffing around the air on his shoulder. It was as if Raccoon could communicate with the animal itself. James could not help but be amused.
“Where are you looking at Culaak? Onions grow on the ground,” Raccoon had a stern hard face. Though he was not strongly built, he was agile and sensitive to his surroundings, much like his pet.
James looked around searching for onions. He had never seen wild onions before and could not help but ask what it looked like.
“What do these onions look like? I’ve only seen peeled onions.”
Bear came behind James, and hit James’s head lightly.
“Ouch! That hurt’s Bear!”
“Culaak, you have never seen onions? And you people call yourselves modern.”
In his hands were small bulbs of wild onions with young green blades sticking out of each.
“Look under your feet. You’ve stepped on one.”
Quickly, James pulled out the onions from the ground. Soon, he discovered that almost everywhere they went, there were wild onions sprouts.
“It’s spring, this is why you can find many onions. Mostly grow in the ground near trees,” Raccoon explained.
While James and Bear were collecting onions, Raccoon’s pet went off into the forest. Curiously, James asked Raccoon, “Where is your pet raccoon?”
“He is not a pet, it is a wild animal, and his name is Rockon.”
“Okay, where is Rockon?”
“He’s off searching for eggs.”
“How does he carry the eggs?”
“You’ll see. He’s coming back soon.”
Surely enough, Rockon’s head pop out of the bushes like he did before during the rescue. He jumped on Raccoon’s shoulder and James saw a deer skin pouch on Rockon’s body. Now he understood how Rockon could carry the eggs.
“Did you leave some eggs in the nest Rockon?”
The animal nodded to his master in acknowledgement.
“Good, here have an egg.”
Raccoon took out three eggs from the pouch and gave one to Rockon. The creature broke the egg by cracking the shell and started licking its contents. Seeing this, James was tempted to do the same as he was still hungry. After Rockon enjoyed his snack, Raccoon sent it off to search for more eggs.
“Not all eggs are up in the trees. Some are in bushes. This bush, for example, usually homes the Tsiquoquo bird,” Bear pointed to a thick bush next to where he was standing. Carefully, Bear moved the bushes apart and there, James saw a nest with three eggs in it.
“We will take one from this nest.”
“Why not take all three?”

“We do not take more than what we need. Besides, we must not upset the Spirits.”
“The Spirits?”
“BANG!” The sound of a gun shot was heard from a far.
Bear grabbed hold of James, and hid behind the bushes. Raccoon hid as well.
“Your way of life disturbs ours. Your methods anger our Spirits.”
James started to understand the ways of the Cherokee. They balance their lives with nature, trying to preserve the natural ways and use only what is necessary.
